"I guess that's better than him just abandoning you. You're close, the two of you. He's very protective of you, but he wishes you to converse more. Or could it be he just doesn't wish you to talk to men." He understood where her brother was coming from. Claire was an attractive lady and men were going to vie for her attention. He wasn't after that, but he knew that would be Michael Adelaide's first thoughts.

"The navy? And a captain? A fine man indeed. I have great respect for the men who fight to keep us safe." He returned her smile before spotting the history section. He ushered Claire in that direction. He loved history. "See anything you like or do you prefer something less....informative?" He was about to say boring, but he couldn't do it. He loved the subject too much.

"Well, I don't know. Perhaps I'll have to ask him." Claire smiled some when she replied. It was a funny thought, Michael knew she was responsible enough to take care of herself. Yet that didn't mean he shouldn't be protective, if he wasn't than he wasn't living up to the status of a brother. Claire mused over the idea for a few moments but then looked over some books. Going over the the history section Claire was at first a bit confused, although she did love to learn.

At Sebastian's question she lightly shrugged, "I honestly don't know where to look first. I've never really have been given the opportunity to read history. I don't deny that it sounds fascinating." Claire was willing to read anything to be completely honest.

Sebastian laughed. "You, my lady, are full of surprises." He shook his head in amusement and raked his gaze over a shelf. There were a few journals tucked away. He'd have to check those out. He glanced at Claire and saw that she was focused on the shelves.

"Never....," he trailed off. It was best if he didn't finish that sentence. It wasn't her fault. Suddenly an idea struck Sebastian. Looking at the clerk, he said to Claire "I'll be right back. Feel free to peruse the books." He crossed to the clerk and spoke softly to him. He passed him money and then thanked him. The clerk looked after him a bit stunned, but then hastened to do his bidding.

Sebastian crossed back to Claire and smiled. "Would you care to check out the history section wit me? There are a few journals that may be of interest." He wanted her to be surprised when she received her gift. For he had told the clerk to get two of every genre of books.

Looking over at Sebastian Claire wondered what he was going to say. Although she thought it was best not to ask, if he didn't say what he was thinking she was sure there was a reason. When he dismissed himself she was too busy looking through books to notice what he was doing. There was such a freedom being able to look through these selections openly. If she was in here with her father she would have to keep her eyes on the floor. This was defiantly a nice change.

As Sebastian asked if she wanted to look over in the history section Claire nodded, "I would love to." Walking with Sebastian over to the history shelves she browsed through them lightly. She honestly didn't know where to begin, hopefully Sebastian found something interesting. She was enjoying her time with him.

He smiled at her and escorted her to the shelves marked history. He stopped and raked his gaze over the many books and journals stocked. "Books are good, but since I'm usually looking for specific information about certain artifacts, I go for the journals." He took one down and skimmed through it. "Hmm," was all he said. He placed the journal back and found another one.

Skimming through the second one, he felt his pulse quicken. It appeared this specific journal was written by an anonymous local historian. He looked back at the shelf and found two more journals by the same arthur. "Well, it looks like someone did document the happenings on Port Royal. There's no name though."

He looked over at Claire. "I wonder if there are any great mysteries." He tucked the journals under his arm and gave the shelf another glance. "Is there anything that catches your attention?"

Claire smiled some and shrugged, "Well it all catches my attention, there is just so much to learn. I don't know where you can possibly begin." Sighing she placed some books back on the shelves that she was looking through earlier. Holding one book that was about ancient egypt she opened it again. "You said you've been to egypt before, correct? I find it fascinating--its unlike anything I've ever learned about before."

The world had so much things she never knew about. There was much to learn and Claire wanted to know everything, now that she was allowed to know.

Chuckling, he watched her. "You begin where you wish to begin madame." He made note of the books she put back and returned his attention to her when she mentioned Egypt. "Correct, it is fascinating. It's almost as if you're in another world. The city is nothing but history." He had fond memories of Egypt. He may go there again some day.

"Books hold a great deal of information, most is accurate. Some things you must experience though. Books can only tell you what's been seen. They cannot capture the atmosphere or heart of the place."

"That sounds interesting, I hope that I'll have the opportunity to visit a place such as Egypt or--somewhere." For so long she was confined to one place that now she was free Claire wanted to see the rest of the world. There was so much to learn and see. At Sebastian explaining about the heart of the location she nodded. "And what country or city has the most heart? Surly there is one area that stands above the others?"

Claire grew more curious about Sebastian's experiences. Of course she could read other's journals on the places he's been but Claire was more interested about Sebastian's travels. She wanted to know more about him.

"I'm sure you will. I'd get adjusted to Port Royal first." It was hard to believe that Claire hadn't seen much of the world, but he could understand since her father had been so controlling. He wondered if he'd be able to take her someplace? There was always a dig he was going to. Perhaps he could take Claire with him. He'd ask her when another dig came along.

"Hmm," he said thoughtfully. "That's a tough one. Greece is nice, but I don't know about heart. Spain? Spainards are quite loyal. They tend to stick together. They do enjoy a fight. Paris? It is the city of love. Ahhh, perhaps I have it. Italy. It's a beautiful city and quite fascinating. The streets, or the majority of them, are water."

Sebastian knew he could ramble for hours, but he didn't wish to bore her. Even though she didn't appear bored. Actually, she seemed quite interested with what he had to say. It was nice to have someone enjoy ones words.

"Under water?" Claire was astonished by that. Of course she's heard it before but thought it couldn't be so. "The world holds far more wonders than I could have imagined. I hope to one day see some of them." The more she heard about the world the more curious she became. Yet she knew it wasn't likely. She was always bound to one place or another. That was to be her fate. If her father had his way she would marry a socialite and be condemned to attended vain parties until she died. Was there any way to escape that fate or was she truly to be met with that end.

Claire wanted to see the world, how could she ever?

Laughing softly, he said "Not under water. They are water. Perhaps you'll be able to see it one day. The world does hold a great many wonders. Maybe your brother can take you to some of the places." He wished that Claire could see the world. He wondered if she'd get to. Would she stay in Port Royal and gain her confidence back or would she be sent back to her father to stay in the confines of society? He couldn't stand the thought of that.

Would she let him help her?

"My brother? No--I highly doubt that. He, being in the navy has seen enough of the world, or so he claims. Last thing I think he'd want to do is take his poor old sister on a world tour. Yet, that doesn't discourage me. I hope to one day find a way to see my share of what the world has in store." Taking one more glance around at the stacks and shelves of books Claire sighed. "Do you think we should be off? If you would like to linger I have no complaints." She said with a soft smile.

"Ah yes, I forgot about that. Some men don't like the travel, but others do. Your brother apparently likes to stay close to home unless otherwise ordered." He shook his head at her. "You're not old. You're really quite lovely. Now, I'm sure you'll get to have your world tour. These things just take time of course." Perhaps there was a way he could set up a world tour for her. He'd go with her of course. A lady of her beauty and position should not go out alone. He doubted her brother would approve.

Smiling, he said "I do believe you're right. We should be off before I get caught up in here." At that moment the clerk appeared and Sebastian handed him the two journals. The man left and rang up his purchases. He brought them back in a smaller bag along with a bigger one that contained the books he'd had the man gather.

"Thank you," he told the man. He handed him some bills and the man gave a small nod of his head before disappearing in the shelves. He held out his arm and grinned at his companion. "Shall we?"

Blushing at Sebastian's comments Claire wasn't sure what to say. Sebastian was very sweet and she liked him. Taking Sebastian's arm Claire smiled, "Yes, we shall." The two were off. Claire looked over at Sebastian's books, he sure did purchase a lot. Thinking nothing more of it Claire and Sebastian continued on there way. Perhaps they should head back to Michael's home, however Claire wasn't ready to return just yet.
